Italian Alps - Travel and Photography Experiences

Hi guys! We arrived at the last part of our tips on the Alps, ending the circuit in beautiful Italia, close to the Dolomites.

Although the Italian Alps extend practically all over the north of the country, I will talk more about the Dolomites region to the east, where the most popular trails and landscapes of this incredible place are.

Here it can usually be the starting point for those arriving by flight through Venice, or it can be the last part of the circuit passing through Switzerland, France and Northern Italy. If you come from Switzerland, you will probably go down to the incomparable city of Como. Coming from France you may pass through the immense Milan or Turin.

The most important thing here about the Dolomites is that you get a base close to the peaks, which I did, staying in the small town of Cortina D’Ampezzo. The city has a fantastic structure to rest, fuel and take the car to the heads of the trails in approximately an hour, or less.

Near Cortina we have some very interesting peaks to explore such as Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Lago Misurina, Lago di Braies, Lago di Sorapis a Cinque Torri and Passo di Giau. They all yield incredible photos. Here especially Lago di Sorapis and Tre Cime di Lavaredo have very nice trails for you to enjoy.

At Tre Cime, I did the trail in the early afternoon to photograph the sunset at Rifugio Locatelli. It was an incredible experience! Then, when I came back I ended up doing the trail in the darkness with just the headlamp, so if you don't like challenges (or aren't equipped properly) do it at a more friendly time.

One of the most amazing views I have ever seen - Tre Cime di Lavaredo

As a bonus, I also photographed the Laghi dei Piani, immediately next to it, which had an incredible view with the accumulated snow and ice. The descent (and the climb afterwards, of course) took a bit of breath, but it was totally worth it.

Those who seeks finds! Laghi dei Piani at sunset.

Don't forget to visit the famous Alpe de Cisles in Seceda, and the little church of São João with the famous view of the mountains close to Sta. Maddalena. On my way out, I ended up missing those places, but they are already on the radar for a next visit.

The best way for you to stay and eat around here is to book a home at AirBnB and shop at the grocery stores. Cheap, reliable and incredible. If you enjoy taking a walk in the local cuisine (like me), this is also the perfect time and place. The restaurants are incredible and the local food is second to none.

I hope you enjoyed it, see you next time. Bye Bye!
